MUMBAI: Actress Rayya Labib has supported the students movement and agitation in New Delhi and also Sonam Wangchuk in his fast saying that students in India are the future of our country and they must be heard and listened to and their demands met.
Speaking to newspersons in Mumbai today, she said the government used excessive force against the students in New Delhi. Even girls and women were manhandled and subjected to lathi charge. This is unfair and unreasonable, she added.
She also deplored the use of excessive force by the administration against the student’s desire to march to Parliament. The students were unarmed or harmless. They just wanted to march to Parliament. The government should have allowed them to do so. Some senior officials or elected MPs or MLAs could have met them. The government should have instead supported them. They are only asking for fairness in education, which is their right. The Minister concerned should have met the student leaders and opened a line of dialogue with them, instead of letting the situation reach such a sad stage.
