Uttar Pradesh Nari Shakti Undertakes Survey in Lucknow Outskirts to Investigate Skin Diseases in Women Above 40

Lucknow: In an initiative aimed at understanding the health concerns of women in rural and semi-urban communities, Uttar Pradesh Nari Shakti has undertaken a survey across the outskirts of Lucknow to investigate the incidence of skin diseases among women above the age of 40.

The survey seeks to identify common skin-related problems affecting women in this age group and understand the possible factors contributing to them. With women in rural areas often having limited access to specialist healthcare, the initiative is expected to provide valuable insights into an area that can sometimes remain overlooked.

Women above 40 may experience a range of skin changes associated with ageing, hormonal fluctuations, environmental exposure and lifestyle factors. Conditions such as excessive dryness, pigmentation, itching, fungal infections, dermatitis and other recurring skin problems can affect their quality of life. Prolonged exposure to sunlight, dust and heat, along with limited awareness about preventive skincare and healthcare services, may further contribute to skin-related complaints.

As part of the survey, women from selected communities on the outskirts of Lucknow are being approached to collect information about their skin health, symptoms, duration of problems and access to medical care. The survey also aims to understand whether affected women have previously consulted healthcare professionals or relied on home remedies and self-medication.

The initiative places particular emphasis on early identification and awareness. Skin problems are frequently dismissed as a normal consequence of ageing, leading some women to delay seeking medical advice. By documenting the prevalence and nature of these conditions, Uttar Pradesh Nari Shakti hopes to encourage women to pay greater attention to changes in their skin and seek appropriate medical guidance when necessary.

The survey could also help highlight the healthcare needs of women living in communities where dermatological services may not be readily accessible. Findings from such a study can potentially support awareness programmes, health camps and referrals to qualified medical professionals.

Health experts generally recommend that persistent itching, unexplained rashes, rapidly changing skin lesions, non-healing wounds, unusual pigmentation or other prolonged skin changes should not be ignored. While many skin conditions are minor and treatable, proper examination is important to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.

The survey is therefore being viewed not merely as a data-collection exercise but as an effort to promote women’s health, awareness and preventive care. By focusing on women over 40, the initiative draws attention to a stage of life when regular health monitoring becomes increasingly important.

Uttar Pradesh Nari Shakti’s initiative underscores the broader need to bring healthcare awareness closer to women in underserved communities. The findings from the Lucknow outskirts survey could serve as a useful starting point for identifying local health priorities and designing future programmes focused on women’s wellbeing.

The initiative reinforces a simple but important message: skin health is an integral part of overall health, and women should not hesitate to seek professional medical advice when persistent or unusual symptoms occur.

The next step for Uttar Pradesh Nari Shakti would be to publish the survey findings with age-wise data, common skin conditions and the number of women surveyed, which would make the initiative more informative for the public and health authorities.
