MUMBAI: Sources indicate that Chennai-based production house Vrindaavan Films, in collaboration with filmmaker Maneesh F. Singh, is developing an Indian adaptation inspired by the iconic Hollywood romantic disaster film Titanic, which was originally written and directed by James Cameron. The ambitious project is expected to blend conventional filmmaking with artificial intelligence, with nearly half of its visuals and cinematic content being generated through AI and advanced visual effects.
While approximately 50 percent of the film will rely on AI-driven imagery and VFX, the remaining portions are expected to be filmed on location in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in and around Lucknow. Mumbai-based fitness model and actor Swati Apsara Rai is reportedly being considered as the principal face and voice of the production.
Industry sources claim that Swati Apsara Rai has been shortlisted for the lead role, although the filmmakers have yet to make any official announcement regarding the casting.
Director Maneesh F. Singh has built a reputation for experimenting with unconventional themes and storytelling, having previously explored several offbeat subjects in his films.
Set in the 19th century, the story revolves around an Indian Maharaja who embarks on a voyage to England aboard a grand ocean liner. During the return journey, the vessel meets a tragic fate and sinks. However, the Maharaja, the Maharani and several members of their royal entourage survive after being rescued by another passing ship.
Discussing the project, Maneesh F. Singh told this reporter, “Bollywood has always been associated with large-scale productions. This film combines historical references with fiction. While the shipwreck itself is inspired by a real historical event, the storyline is entirely fictional. The narrative features Indian characters along with Indian love stories. The only difference is that the romance unfolds aboard the decks of a magnificent ship rather than around trees, as is often seen in Bollywood films. We are planning to create an enormous vessel, possibly even larger than the original Titanic. The project carries a budget of more than Rs 500 crore, with nearly half of that amount earmarked for AI-generated visuals and advanced VFX.”
