Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is preparing to take centre stage in the world of fashion with the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Fashion Week (UPFW), a three-day fashion and glamour extravaganza scheduled to be held in the state capital, Lucknow, during September-October. The event aims to create a major platform for the state’s rich traditional craftsmanship while bringing artisans, craftsmen, designers, makeup artistes and models together under one roof. The entire event is sponsored by Shree Parvat Solar Energy, Lucknow’s leading solar energy consultancy and installation provider.
Uttar Pradesh has long been recognized for its remarkable heritage of handicrafts, textiles, jewellery and traditional artistry. From the intricate embroidery created by chikankari karigars to the delicate ornaments fashioned by traditional goldsmiths, the state is home to thousands of highly skilled workers whose expertise has been passed down through generations. Besides local talent, designers from all over India will be part of the event.
The Uttar Pradesh Fashion Week seeks to showcase this immense talent to audiences in India and around the world. By bringing traditional craftsmanship into a contemporary fashion environment, the event intends to demonstrate how Uttar Pradesh’s heritage can become an integral part of modern fashion and luxury. This will be achieved by roping in Bhojpuri and Bollywood stars to promote Uttar Pradesh’s rich culture, tradition and craftsmanship.
The three-day event is being positioned as one of the biggest fashion and glamour events ever organised in Uttar Pradesh. Rather than focusing exclusively on established fashion designers and models, UPFW is expected to highlight talent across the entire fashion ecosystem. Traditional artisans, craftsmen, designers, makeup artistes and professional models will all play an important role in the extravaganza.
More than 500 participants are expected to be associated with the event, making it one of the largest gatherings of fashion and creative professionals in the state. The participation of such a large number of people is expected to provide opportunities for collaboration between traditional craftsmen and contemporary designers, potentially resulting in new interpretations of Uttar Pradesh’s distinctive artistic traditions.
One of the key attractions of the event will be the emphasis on traditional skills. Chikankari, for instance, is synonymous with Lucknow and represents one of the finest forms of Indian embroidery. Similarly, the state’s jewellery-making traditions, weaving, textile work, embroidery, handicrafts and other forms of craftsmanship represent a vast reservoir of creative talent.
The organisers aim to use the fashion week as a bridge between this traditional talent and the international fashion industry. The larger vision is to introduce Uttar Pradesh not merely as a destination of historical and cultural significance, but also as a state capable of producing fashion, craftsmanship and creative talent that can find a place on national and international platforms.
Lucknow, with its distinctive cultural identity, royal heritage and long association with craftsmanship, provides an appropriate setting for such an initiative. The city’s combination of tradition and modernity could give the event a unique character, allowing fashion presentations to coexist with the artistic traditions for which the region is known.
With participation expected from hundreds of professionals and creative workers, the Uttar Pradesh Fashion Week could also provide an important platform for emerging designers and models. For young talent, the event could offer opportunities to gain visibility, network with industry professionals and become part of a larger fashion ecosystem.
Beyond the glamour of the runway, the central message of UPFW is expected to revolve around recognition and promotion of local talent. The event seeks to establish that fashion is not limited to clothing and modelling but encompasses the artisans, craftsmen, jewellery makers, makeup artistes, designers and numerous other professionals who contribute to creating a finished fashion product.
As Lucknow prepares to host the three-day extravaganza during September-October, expectations are building around what is being described as the biggest fashion extravaganza ever held in Uttar Pradesh. More than 5 lakh people will be part of this grand fashion and glamour event, with hundreds of Bollywood stars in attendance. With its focus on heritage, craftsmanship, glamour and contemporary fashion, Uttar Pradesh Fashion Week aims to put the state firmly on the fashion map and introduce its extraordinary traditional talent to the world.
